When Noah was in the hospital, I had the same list of questions to ask the nurses to know a little bit more about his progress...did he have any bradies? how much does he weigh? what oxygen level is he on? what LPM number is the oxygen on? and of course...did he have a bowel movement?!
I got so used to asking these questions, that I always ask them to Carl or to my parents when they are the ones watching him. One day, Carl asked me: "why are you always asking if Noah pooped?", so I had to remind him of what happened on Day 37 when the doctors thought that Noah may have something called Hirschprung's Disease. The worst feeling in the world for a mother is to hear that your child may be diagnosed with something and there isn't anything that you can do about it. If Noah DID have Hirschprung's disease, he would have had to stay in the hospital a little longer due to a necessary operation to correct the problem. After the doctors doing a Barium Enema, they came to the conclusion that Noah did NOT have this disease, but that his system could have just needed some readjustment due to the infection he previously had.
So...why is it that I love poop? Because everytime I hear that he has had a successful bowel movement, it just reminds me of the day those dr's scared the beejesus out of me; and that God is still God through it all. Kind of like how the rainbow was a promise to Noah (in the Bible) and all others that God would never destroy the Earth again with a flood (Gen 9:11-17). Kinda of crazy isn't it?! I know that bowel movements are always a good sign, but to me...they mean just a little more!
So here's to stinky, large, poopy diapers!!!!
